HOW IT WORKS

The LEZ is effective from 4 February 2008, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year

  • Signs indicate when you're entering the zone
  • Cameras check your vehicle registration number plate against a database to ensure the vehicle meets the emissions standards
  • If your vehicle doesn't meet the LEZ emissions standards, isn't exempt, or hasn't paid already, you will have to pay the charge: £200 per day for HGV, buses and coaches, £100 per day for large vans and minibuses
  • Payment can be made by phone or online, up to midnight on the next working day after the day of travel

Penalties

Vehicles that do not meet the specified emissions standards and don't pay the daily charge will incur a penalty of £1000 for HGVs, buses and coaches (reduced to £500 if paid within 14 days), and £500 for LGVs and minibuses (reduced to £250 if paid within 14 days).
