Next Generation Data (NGD) is a specialist in housing computer systems and associated components. It manages mission-critical environments and offers flexible, cost effective and resilient data centre solutions. All of which is delivered by a highly experienced team. Companies rely on their information systems to run their operations and NGD's data centre provides a reliable infrastructure to reduce any chance of disruption to those systems.
NGD's data centre has its own back-up power supply, environmental controls and security devices to ensure minimal disturbance to its clients’ systems. NGD first met Lombard in 2008 when the company was still in its early stages. Not the usual Lombard customer, NGD was a new company and had yet to begin trading. NGD recognised the potential of an existing, unoccupied building, near Newport, which it leased from the Welsh Assembly Government. Nick Razey, NGD Managing Director, had never used asset finance before but was introduced to Lombard for support for the company’s plans.
Razey explains, "We already had contracts and customers lined up, but we needed efficient finance to get our business plans off the ground, and this is where Lombard came in. I was impressed that Lombard, compared to others, was prepared to take the risk in a new company. Not only was it able to help us to commence trading, but the finance released capital to benefit our investors. There’s a lot of exciting potential with NGD and Lombard helped us recognise this."
Steve Guy, Lombard Relationship Director, explains, "NGD had invested several million in preparing the building as an enabled data centre shell but needed help to finance the fit-out of customer specific data halls. I was able to use my experience in this sector and work with my colleagues at Lombard to structure the deal. The Lombard team worked closely with Next Generation Data to find a funding package that delivered a solution that would help this forward-thinking company to further its growth potential. £8m over two deals was provided to enable NGD to acquire mechanical and electrical systems, which are the fundamental assets which create the data centre environment. The finance solution was highly structured and based on the strength of NGD’s customers."
Since opening in Newport, NGD has experienced a rapid increase in demand from the corporate, government and cloud computing sectors, hosting hundreds of computer servers for major companies like BT.
