About S Dawes Weaving
S Dawes Weaving is a textile manufacturer located in Colne, Lancashire. They provide specialised weaving of high-quality jacquard fabrics for use in the furnishing, upholstery, industrial and apparel markets, as well as high-performance fabrics for the automotive and defence sectors.
What did they want to achieve?
Under increasing pressure, two years ago the company completed a complex relocation operation to Greenhill Mill, a larger premises in Colne. It also passed the fourth round of a Regional Growth Fund process, which involved the factory buying new looms, a CAD design system and other critical equipment.
Stephen Shepherd, Managing Director recognised that alongside this growth was a difficulty to meet demand for small multi-coloured warps.
How we helped
Stephen was introduced to Senior Relationship Manager at Lombard, Callum Bull by Senior Relationship Manager at NatWest, Andy Kay to discuss funding options for a machine to manufacture small multi-coloured warps and its own beams.
The company was able to secure funding to buy a Karl Mayer GOM machine and a variable rate hire purchase was agreed for the most convenient repayment.
"We serve fast moving markets so it’s imperative we innovate too, and Lombard has been fantastic in helping us purchase this new machine. Callum is always available to help and the machine itself is amazing."

The Karl Mayer GOM has opened new avenues for the company and its fabric designers. The team can now sample new designs and colourways, respond more quickly to customer briefs, and show new flexibility in multi-coloured warp production.
They can now keep up with international competitors by efficiently producing small sample warps from 50-100metres, as well as free up capital. The Karl Mayer GOM allows a per-stock order, benefitting the company with a stockholding reduction of more than 80%.
Opened up new business and new markets, increased sales and can offer more jobs to the area.
The company was awarded the prestigious Pendle Manufacturer of the Year Business award.
We provided a two-year £500,000 investment to support investment.
